4 reasons to BUY the Acer Swift 5 Pro

1. Battery life

The battery life on this Acer is just great. There are no other words to describe it. That’s why it currently takes the №8 spot in our Top 50 Laptops with the Best Battery Life chart. With its remarkable 20 hours of Web-surfing and nearly 14 hours of video playback, it’s a no-brainer that this battery is a great reason to buy this device.

In order to simulate real-life conditions, we used our own script for automatic web browsing through over 70 websites.

For every test like this, we use the same video in HD.

2. Display

This Swift 5 has a 14-inch Full HD display and a touchscreen. The laptop has a maximum brightness of 437 nits, sports a very good contrast ratio, and a wide color coverage (96% of the sRGB spectrum). Fortunately, the laptop’s backlight doesn’t use PWM at all, and has great color accuracy when used in tandem with our Gaming and Web Design profile.

Below you can compare the scores of Acer Swift 5 Pro (SF514-55GT) with the default settings (left), and with the “Gaming and Web design” profile (right).

3. Performance

It’s no surprise that this laptop is a champ in terms of performance. After all, it features the latest Tiger Lake Intel Core i7-1165G7 with Intel’s best iGPU yet. When you pair that with an already good discrete GPU, in the face of NVIDIA GeForce MX350, you get a device that excels in productivity tasks and other resource-heavy programs.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

Results are from the 3DMark: Fire Strike (Graphics) benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Results are from the Unigine Superposition benchmark (higher the score, the better)

4. Build quality

Laptop build quality and design have improved steadily in a couple of years. What used to be made of plastic is now crafted from premium materials and this new Acer is no different. Its body is made out of sturdy magnesium alloy, which is strong enough to be made into thinner sheets, thus making the laptop lighter and thinner. Its base is covered with silver ions so that it fights off germs and bacteria and the screen is also covered in Corning Gorilla Glass that also has antimicrobial protection.

1 reason NOT to buy the Acer Swift 5 Pro

1. Upgradeability

Once again, a great device is hindered by something so small. If you get this laptop you’ll pretty much have to open your wallet for the version with 16GB of RAM. But then again if you really want to have a laptop with this processor and its iGPU we believe that it is worth the trade-off.
