Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3i (16″, 2022) review – its display is fantastic

Design and construction

Surprise, surprise, the entire laptop is made out of plastic. It looks super sleek, and one wouldn’t be able to tell that this is a gaming device. The only giveaway is the sporty look and the blue accents on the back vents.

It weighs 2.60 kilos, which is a bit much, but still less than the Dell G15 5520, which has a smaller screen. On the other hand, it is pretty thin – 20.9mm. This might be the reason for the flex we found in both the lid and the base. Fear not, however, it is not too big of a deal.

Here, the lid opens with one hand and goes almost all the way back to a flat position. We were pleasantly surprised that the Web camera has a Full HD resolution and a privacy shutter. The bezels around the matte display are also pretty thin.

Now, let’s take a look at the base. The power button is separated from the rest of the keyboard, which is great. Its LED lights in either Blue, White, or Red, depending on the performance profile you choose. The presets can be toggled by the “Function + Q” shortcut spell.

Overall, the keyboard is super comfortable. It has long key travel, clicky feedback, and a backlight. Some units will feature a 4-zone RGB backlight. In addition, you can see the huge Arrow keys. We can’t miss the opportunity to mention the fantastic response time of the touchpad.

Turn the laptop upside down, and take a look at the speaker cutouts. In addition, there is the ventilation grill, where the laptop draws cool air from. Hot air, respectively, is exhausted through two vents on the back, and one on each side of the laptop.

Ports

On the left side, you get a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and an Audio jack. Then, on the right, you find a single USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port. At the back, however, is where you will find most of the ports. There, you see an HDMI connector, a LAN port, a Thunderbolt 4 connector (for RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti models), or a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port with DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0 capabilities. Lastly, there is the power plug.

Thanks for this I bought the same laptop with i7-12650h and RTX 3050 Ti, and the thermal throttling is unbelievable. with the cinebenchr23 (and everything else)it stays around 90-95 degrees… and lowers the speed to 1.5ghz. very sad and I hope changing the factory thermal paste will solve everything(will put Arctic mx-6) you gave me hope!!
