Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3i (16″, 2022) review – its display is fantastic

Ever since it was released to the market, the IdeaPad Gaming 3 stormed out to the top ranks of the gaming market. Why? Because money rules and affordability will always beat sheer power.

However, this doesn’t mean you need to spend a lot of money to get a powerful device. The IdeaPad Gaming 3i (16″, 2022) is here to prove that. If you are not new to our website, you will know that we already tested two versions of the IdeaPad Gaming – one Intel-based, and one from AMD. However, today, we have something conceptually different – it has a 16-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio.

More often than not, the display proves crucial for the overall experience (especially when gaming). Weirdly, this aspect is also often overlooked by users when making a purchase decision, because many retailers fail to make informative listings.

Anyways, this device can be found with a 1200p and a 1600p IPS display, either of which has a 165Hz refresh rate and an alleged full sRGB coverage. This will combine pretty well with the 12th Gen Intel CPU inside, and the RTX 3060.

Now, we have to make a disclaimer – there is a slight difference between the devices coming with an RTX 3060, and those, featuring the RTX 3050, or RTX 3050 Ti. Weirdly, the latter version has a Thunderbolt 4 connector, while the former downgrades to a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) with pretty much the same functionality. That comes in addition to the almost sure cooling difference.

What’s in the box?

It is not surprising to see that the laptop comes in rather unimpressive packaging. Besides the paperwork, there is a 230W charger.

Thanks for this I bought the same laptop with i7-12650h and RTX 3050 Ti, and the thermal throttling is unbelievable. with the cinebenchr23 (and everything else)it stays around 90-95 degrees… and lowers the speed to 1.5ghz. very sad and I hope changing the factory thermal paste will solve everything(will put Arctic mx-6) you gave me hope!!
