Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 4 review – business in style

Design and construction

When you take it out of the box, you see the two-tone grey finish. It weighs 1.40 kg and has a profile of 17.9mm. This makes the machine pretty portable. To be frank, it holds its place in the 14-inch laptop world.

The entire notebook is made out of aluminum. This gives it a pretty good flex resistance in both the lid and the base. However, this doesn’t mean that the build quality is spot on.

Unfortunately, the lid cannot be opened with a single hand. Its side bezels are thin, while the bottom and top ones are slightly thicker. Furthermore, the latter houses an HD Web camera with a privacy shutter, and a 1080p shooter stays in as an option.

Moving to the base, we see a spill-resistant keyboard, that has a backlight. We are happy with its key travel and the clicky feedback. Since this is a business notebook, we have to mention that it comes with a dedicated service hotkey. Also, its power button doubles as a fingerprint reader.

The touchpad has an area of 70 by 105 mm, while the surface is made out of Mylar. Yes, its texture is pretty smooth, and the tracking is accurate, making the unit pretty good. However, the small size is a bit offputting given the competition.

Turn the laptop upside down, and have a look at the two speaker cutouts. There, you will also find the ventilation grill. On the back, there is one vent, which is where the hot air exit the notebook.

Ports

On the left side, there is a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port with DisplayPort and Power Delivery capabilities, a Thunderbolt 4 port, an HDMI 2.0 connector, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and an Audio jack. Then, on the right, there is a Kensington Security lock slot, a LAN port, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and an SD card slot.
