Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen1: Full Specs / In-depth Review

As always, we like to begin from the exterior. Here we see little change, with the overall shape staying the same, but there are small but noticeable choices that Lenovo has made, in order to make the Gen 2 device distinguishable from its predecessor while keeping the ThinkPad design language intact. The build quality remains the same, which we believe is the right choice, with a metal alloy for the base and a hybrid polymer for the lid, which combines carbon fiber and plastic. This makes the device very sturdy and resistant to flexing.

The display choices remain the same, with there being two 13.3-inch panels with a 16:10 aspect ratio to choose from. The first one has a Full HD+ resolution and the second display offers a higher QHD+ resolution. The 16:10 aspect ratio gives the user more room on the Y-axis, making sure you can fit all of your apps and menus on one screen, improving your productivity. The Full HD+ panel on the Gen 1 ThinkPad has very good color coverage and color accuracy, so you should expect the Gen 2 to be useful for color-sensitive work.

The specifications are far better on the Gen 2 though, with the Comet Lake U-series chips being replaced with Intel’s hottest available CPUs. You get Tiger Lake under the hood, which offers great power at a relatively low TDP. With the option going up to the Core i7-1185G7, you can get a very capable machine, which is super portable, but still can do everything that you ask from it.

For the graphics, you get the Iris Xe Graphics G7 iGPUs from Intel, which are some of the best integrated graphics on the market right now. Overall, with the Gen 2 device, you get better and newer hardware, along with Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5 support.
