[Specs, Info, and Prices] Meet the HP ENVY 17, which has a fantastic 4K screen and the performance to back it up

17-inch laptops are very interesting devices. On one hand, they offer more room to work with than a normal 14 or 15.6-inch machines, which is great, but on the other, most of the time, the device gets too bulky, in terms of dimensions and at that point, wouldn’t a desktop be a better option. Well, we won’t be getting into that argument now, as we have a showcase for you today.

With the reveal of the new HP ENVY x360 15 convertible, the brand also decided to remove the wraps from its updated ENVY 17 device, which comes with Tiger Lake internals and a stunning 4K display.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the new HP ENVY 17 (2021).

HP ENVY 17: Full Specs

Design

We will start on the outside, as we like to always do. Considering that the ENVY brand is targeting the more premium market, and most of its other devices have had premium builds made from aluminum alloy, we can expect the same treatment for the ENVY 17. This would be great, as a larger device, would need superb build quality, otherwise, it could easily get damaged, due to its size and weight. In terms of looks alone, the device looks stunning, with a finish that HP refers to as “Sandblasted” aluminum.

When you open the lid, you are greeted by a touchpad, which is 19% larger, than on the 2020 model, as well as a backlit keyboard, for those long nights. You also get stereo front-firing speakers, tuned by Bang&Olufsen, so you know the audio will be great.

Display

As for the display, HP has stuck with the two panels from last year, which makes sense. Both panels have a size of 17.3-inches, and the base one has a Full HD resolution and an IPS matrix. The showstopper, however, is definitely the 4K OLED display, which will make your jaw drop. OLED panels are known for their great colors and true blacks, which will make your images and illustrations come to life. Furthermore, it comes with factory color calibration.

Specifications

Specs-wise, the new generation comes with the Core i7-1165G7. The interesting part is that this CPU was already available with the 2020 version of the HP ENVY 17. This makes the last year’s model a better value for money if you are only interested in the CPU performance. On the GPU front, you get the Iris Xe Graphics G7 iGPU, which is a fantastic performer, which can power the huge 4K screen and even play games, mainly esports titles like League of Legends and CS:GO. If you want better graphics performance, however, you can get the dedicated MX450 from NVIDIA.

In terms of I/O, there are three USB Type-A ports and one USB Type-C, and one HDMI connector, as well as a 3.5mm audio jack, and a MicroSD card reader.
