[Specs and Info] Everything we know about the newest MSI GE66 and GE76 Raider series with up to Core i9 and RTX 3080

MSI’s virtual “MSIology” event brought forward the reveal of the company’s most powerful gaming laptop up to date. The newest GE66 Rider and GE76 Rider come with the newest available tech from Intel and NVIDIA, plus some other features that will help it be an overall great machine as well.

For the true MSI fans, they have also created a special Dragon Tiamat Edition that embodies the might and power of the primordial Mesopotamian goddess.

Today we are here to give you a quick overview of these new machines including specs and our first thoughts about them.

Both devices have a great design, featuring “Mystic Light”. It is quite flashy and people will definitely recognize that you own a gaming laptop from the second that they lay their eyes on it. While most people are impartial to this, there are consumers that want to be more low-key and not own a machine that is infused with RGB to the core. The Special Dragon Tiamat Edition is another story and we believe the dragon design on the back is just fantastic and makes the whole machine look prestigious.

We can’t speak about the structural integrity of the devices, but we believe that due to the size and heft of them they will be quite rigid and sturdy. One thing that we can mention is the cooling solution that MSI has implemented for the GE Raider series, the MSI Cooler Boost 5, which consists of six heat pipes with two fans, ensuring great airflow that the laptop so desperately needs.

The choices for displays for the GE76 and GE66 Raider are the same, with the only difference being the size. The GE76 comes with only 17.3-inch screens and the GE66 only with 15.6-inch panels, so you should determine for yourself if you either value more the screen size or the portability. Now, to get to the panels themselves, the entry option is a 240Hz Full HD IPS panel, followed by another Full HD IPS screen with a 300Hz refresh rate. For the final option, MSI has chosen a UHD IPS panel with 100% color coverage of the Adobe RGB color gamut.

The specifications on paper as very impressive for both devices. You can get the laptops with up to a Core i9-10980HK and an RTX 3080 with 16GB of GDDR6. Other GPU choices include the RTX 3070 for the GE76 and the RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 for the GE66. Up to 64GB of DDR4-3200MHz RAM is available through the two SODIMM slots. There are two M.2 NVMe drives for SSD storage.

The devices have an FHD Webcam, which can record video of 30fps@1080p and support Wi-Fi 6E. The keyboards on both machines are provided by SteelSeries and have RGB backlight that is per-key. Moving over to the audio, the speakers here are designed by Dynaudio systems. You get two 2W speakers for the GE66 and for the bigger GE76 you also get two 1W speakers plus two 2W woofers.
