[Specs and Info] ASUS ExpertBook B5 (B5402C) and ExpertBook B5 Flip (B5402F) – Tiger Lake is still fantastic

ASUS’s ExpertBook lineup offers business laptops with proper security and performance. Today we have the ExperBook B5 and ExpertBook B5 Flip, which are the middle ground between the B3 and B7 series.

While the convertible is definitely more interesting, with its touch support displays and tablet mode, most of the time you won’t be using them when typing emails or doing spreadsheets, so you can save some money there, as convertibles are generally more expensive than their clamshell variants.

The laptops still use Tiger Lake, but the platform is so far from being obsolete, and while most people will gun for Alder Lake, if you can get your hands on a Tiger Lake laptop for a discount, you’re still well in the green when it comes to getting a powerful laptop that will be useful for years to come.

Today we are giving you a quick overview of the ASUS ExpertBook B5 (B5402C) and the ExpertBook B5 Flip (B5402F).

ASUS ExpertBook B5 Flip (B5402F) configurations:

Design

The laptops are crafted from aluminum and look really sharp (literally). The notebooks are painted in navy blue, which is sleek and more importantly stands out in a field of black and grey devices. The lid and base combine both sharp and diamond-cut edges. The round corners soften the overall look, making for pretty sleek-looking devices. The lid comes with a glossy ASUS logo in the middle, while the upper left corner has an ExpertBook badge. The convertible is 130 grams heavier, but both laptops come with the same 18 mm profile.

Display

Both laptops use the same 14-inch Full HD IPS panel with 400 nits max brightness and 100% sRGB coverage. The B5 Flip obviously has a touch layer and a stylus pen with its own enclosure. The laptops will probably be able to be used for professional color-sensitive work, but we would still have to review them in order to give a recommendation.

Specifications and features

There are two CPU options with either the Core i5-1155G7 or the Core i7-1195G7. The CPUs are really similar, with 4 cores and eight threads. The Core i7 has a higher base and boost speeds, along with 4MB of more cache, which productivity programs will eat up quickly. For graphics, you have the Iris Xe Graphics G7 with either 80 or 96 Execution Units. These iGPUs are fantastic for daily use and even some more resource-heavy tasks.

The I/O coverage is great for 14-inch devices with one USB 2.0 port, one USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 1.4 port, an Ethernet connector, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

While the units do lack a physical NumPad, the touchpad can transform into one with a simple touch. The keyboard also has a backlight, along with an embedded fingerprint reader in the power button.
