Dell Inspiron 17 7779 (17-inch, FHD, IPS) display profiles – Quality and Health impact results

The 17-inch 2-in-1 solution from Dell appears to have more than one selling point and the display is definitely one of them. Our tests show that the IPS panel is capable of reproducing fairly accurate colors and has all the needed properties for an excellent multimedia experience. The profile packages contain the usual Health-Guard, Office work / Web design and Gaming / Movie Nights profiles, each of which will improve the overall image quality in certain aspects. You can read more about them here and how to use them. We also suggest reading our dedicated article regarding blue light emissions and PWM and how our custom profiles help eliminate both to certain extent.

The Dell Inspiron 17 7779 has a Full HD IPS panel with 90% sRGB color gamut coverage, extremely high contrast ratio (1300:1), high maximum brightness (353 cd/m2) and optimal color temperature – 6500K.

Since our profiles are tailored for each individual display model, this article and its respective profile package are meant for the Dell Inspiron 17 7779 with 17.3″ panel manufactured by AU Optronics with model number B173HW01 V.0 (Y147T, AUO109D) featuring FHD (1920×1080) resolution and the machine can be found at Amazon.com: Dell Inspiron 17 7779.

Office Work / Web Design

This profile aims to deliver the most accurate colors possible in the sRGB gamut – the colors used on the Web. The notebook’s screen isn’t suitable for color-sensitive work but it’s more than enough for good multimedia experience. Our profile, however, improves the color accuracy as much as possible.

We’ve also adjusted the gamma curve and white balance to fit the standards.

Gaming and Movie Nights

You can take advantage of the Gaming and Movie Nights profile, which will improve the overall visibility – especially in darker areas of the image – during gaming and watching movies (you can see an example here).

Health-Guard profile

As for the Health-Guard profile, it reduces the blue light impact and eliminates the PWM. However, since the panel doesn’t use PWM from 55 cd/m2 and above, the Health-Guard profile will come in handy only for reducing the negative blue light emissions.

Installing and using the profiles
