ASUS ProArt Studiobook 16 OLED (W7600): Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the ASUS ProArt Studiobook 16 OLED (W7600)

1. Design and build quality

As with any premium ASUS machine, this one gets superb rigidity and durability, thanks to the metal lid and chassis. It probably is the strongest laptop that we have seen, with neither the base nor the lid showing any flexing or twisting at all, which is mind-boggling.

In terms of looks, there is a black matte coating around the whole laptop, which works double shifts acting as an anti-fingerprint cover as well. The branding is minimal, with only a small ASUS logo on the bottom bezel and a ProArt logo on the lid. In terms of weight and height, this isn’t a portable machine, weighing 2.40 kg and coming with a profile of 21.4 mm.

2. Input devices

Opening the lid is easily done with one hand, revealing a well-sized keyboard with a NumPad, large Arrow keys, which are also covered in stripes, along with a touchpad with three physical buttons, and the star of the show, the ASUS Dial. The latter allows you to control your software in new and interesting ways, which hopefully manage to increase your productivity.

There is great integration with the Adobe suite, but we are certain even open-source options like Krita or Inkscape can take advantage. The keyboard has decent key travel, which could honestly be longer, but the feedback is plenty clicky. The touchpad is on another level, coming with stylus support and 1024 levels of sensitivity.

3. I/O

The I/O is stacked with ports, coming with two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, one of which also has Thunderbolt 4 support, an HDMI 2.1 port, an SD card reader, an Ethernet port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

4. Display quality

There is a single display option, with a 16-inch 16:10 4K UHD+ display that uses an AMOLED panel. It presents us with comfortable viewing angles, a max brightness of 427 nits in the middle of the screen, and an infinite contrast ratio. In terms of coverage and accuracy, the laptop covers 100% of the sRGB gamut and 99% of the DCI-P3 gamut.

The color accuracy isn’t the best due to the same OLED technology. The lowest that we could get the dE value was in the P3-D65 color space with our Design and Gaming profile. Here are the results, with the factory settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).

Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

1 reason NOT to buy the ASUS ProArt Studiobook 16 OLED (W7600)

1. Battery life

Despite the 90Wh battery pack, the laptop lasts only for 6 hours and 58 minutes of Web browsing, or 5 hours and 47 minutes of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.
