Acer Swift X (SFX16-51G) – Top 5 Pros and Cons

We have always held the Swift X family in high regard, as it seems to be the only consistent laptop in Acer’s portfolio, coming back every year to deliver reliable performance and high-end features. The latest Swift X comes with a large 16.1-inch display which is the ideal platform for the Tiger Lake H35 to have one last ride before it ultimately gets replaced by the Alder Lake P-series. The laptop is game-ready as well, thanks to the RTX 3050 and RTX 3050 Ti. If you’re a productive person, but like to have a bit of fun as well, the laptop will cover all of your needs.

Today we are presenting you with LaptopMedia’s Top 5 picks about the Acer Swift X (SFX16-51G).

Acer Swift X (SFX16-51G): Full Specs / In-depth Review

3 reasons to BUY the Acer Swift X (SFX16-51G)

1. Design and build quality

The whole laptop is made out of metal, which is a testament to the quality and structural rigidity. The device feels great to handle and use, with no creaks or twists, as we vigorously tried to find a weakness of the design. The chassis has a dark grey color, while the Acer logo on the lid has a slightly lighter shade. The lid opens easily with one hand, revealing the lever mechanism, which lifts up the back end of the laptop, thus increasing the free flow of air. In terms of dimensions, the laptop comes with a weight of 1.90 kg and a profile of 18.9 mm.

2. Display quality

The 16.1-inch Full HD display has a large footprint, which anyone can appreciate. Pair that with good portability and you have a daily driver that can be used for entertainment, Gaming, and Creativity. The laptop has comfortable viewing angles, a max brightness of 281 nits in the middle of the screen and 260 nits as an average for the whole area, with a maximum deviation of 10%. The contrast ratio is really high – 1520:1. The real star of the show is the coverage, as the laptop covers 98% of the sRGB color gamut.

The accuracy is decent with the stock settings (left) but becomes even better once we applied our Design and Gaming profile applied (right), which lowers the dE value down to 0.8 from 1.9. Here are the results of our test.

Buy our profiles

Since our profiles are tailored for each individual display model, this article and its respective profile package are meant for Acer Swift X (SFX16-51G) configurations with 16.1″ FHD IPS Innolux N161HCA-EA3 (CMN160B).

In addition to receiving efficient and health-friendly profiles, by buying LaptopMedia's products you also support the development of our labs, where we test devices in order to produce the most objective reviews possible.

Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

3. Battery life

The laptop arrives with a 59Wh battery pack, which is decent and it performs well in our tests. It lasts for 13 hours and 8 minutes of Web browsing, or 9 hours and 5 minutes of video playback. As always, we perform each test with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

2 reasons NOT to buy the Acer Swift X (SFX16-51G)

1. I/O

The I/O could have been perfect if Acer would have added an SD card reader. However, they decided against it, so we are left with still decent coverage. It includes a Thunderbolt 4 port, two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1), an HDMI 2.0 port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

2. Upgradeability

The upgradeability is poor, with the laptop coming with soldered RAM, which could have possibly been prevented, as there seems to be enough free space inside for perhaps a larger mainboard with different positioning. In terms of storage, you’re well covered, with there being two M.2 PCIe x4 slots for SSD expansion.

Here is our teardown video, which shows how to access the insides of the device, including the M.2 slots.
