Acer Predator G6-710 preview – Acer’s new geared up desktop predator

We’ve decided to mix things up a bit from all the notebook, smartphones, hybrid machines, etc. with one of Acer’s newest desktop configurations part of the Predator gaming family. But before we jump in the specs and features of the latest model, we’d like to note that the 29th of November was a special day for us tech geeks.

Acer hosted a Predator-themed event in Sofia, Bulgaria the other day, where a local club became the gamers’s holy grail for a couple of hours. The manufacturer presented their latest notebook, desktop PC, monitors and tablet from the Predator series.

The atmosphere of the event was amazing and the machines – incredible. The presentation of some of the features, which the new models boast, shed line on what we could expect from Acer. The most powerful Predator notebooks were given to the fans for a test run who spent their time on mostly playing League of Legends. Also, we can’t go on without mentioning at the end of the day 30 lucky attendants, who had met the requirements, had the chance to win some beastly machines.

Coming back to the main subject – Predator G6 – the machine definitely has a lot of impressive features and all the information below is more of a guide to what you can expect to see in our full in-depth review.

WHat’s the Predator G6

Acer is taking a huge step forward with this is their first desktop gaming series – Predator G. But what does this mean? Power, style and aggressive design combined in one product. We’re going to talk about the last two in a bit, but for now we’re going to emphasize on why we’re calling the Taiwanese company’s model – The Airplane.

The configuration includes the latest generation Intel CPU – Core i7-6700K clocked at 4 GHz that can be boosted up to 4.4 GHz thanks to the Turbo Boost feature. As you can see it is a “K” chip which means that it is unlocked for overclocking. We’re going to share some more information about the overclocking capabilities of the Predator G series below, but for now we’re continuing with the hardware of G6.

Not only is the CPU is high-end, though, but so is the GPU. It is NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 970 and it has 4GB GDDR5 vRAM, making it one of the best graphic accelerators currently on the market in price/performance ratio. In addition, the machine boasts 8GB of RAM, 2TB HDD as well as a 128GB SSD. In any case, the upgrade options aren’t limited at all.

Agressive design and Turbo mode

We’ve already mentioned that G6 has high overclocking capabilities, but what we didn’t share was that you’ll be able to boost the operating frequencies of the CPU even if you don’t know how to thanks to the special addition from Acer. You’ll find a “TURBO” button, located slightly above the power button that automatically overclocks your system granting you the full capabilities of the G6. Moreover, the appearance of the machine becomes even better because of the LED lights on the casing light up, while you’re in Turbo mode.

The front panel of the machine grants you easy access to the hardware components and instant upgrade options by the so-called Easy-Swap Expansion located slightly above the two USB 3.0 ports. The Predator logo is also present and it serves as proof that you’re getting the best of what the Taiwanese manufacturer has to offer. Acer has definitely brought one exceptionally powerful and interesting model on the market and even though we had some time on the machine during the weekend we’re eager to test it as soon as it enters our labs. You can expect our full review in the following days.
