NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 vs GeForce GTX 1650 Ti – the difference is insignificant
When it comes to laptop graphics, the undisputed king in practically every budget level is NVIDIA. Whether we are talking about the RTX 2080, the GTX 1660 Ti, or even the GTX 1650, there are no mainstream matches painted in Red. Sure, this is the story for many years now, and until AMD comes with something exciting (we hope that’s going to happen sooner rather than later), we can focus on the stuff NVIDIA is releasing each and every year.
So, ever since the Turing series hit the market everyone was talking about RTX and how big of a deal ray-tracing actually is. Expectedly, though, the lower budget tier market didn’t get any RTX treatment. However, in our view, the upgrade the GTX 1650 brought over the GTX 1050 was more than marginal. And until soon, all of us were wondering, are we going to get a Ti version of that model? Well, finally, the GTX 1650 Ti was released to the world and we have something to write about.

Unsurprisingly, in terms of specs, these GPUs have a lot in common. However, we didn’t expect them to be almost identical. Both of them are based on the TU-117 chip from the Turing family of NVIDIA. Therefore, both of them are based on the 12nm manufacturing process and offer 1024 shader cores, 64 texture mapping units, and 32 ROPs. Interestingly, the Ti version offers lower base and boost clocks at 1350-1485 MHz, compared to the 1395-1560 MHz to the stock GTX 1650. However, with a TGP of 55W (a 5W increase), the GTX 1650 Ti should offer slightly more power headroom.
Memory-wise, we are talking about 4GB of GDDR6 memory for both of them. Ultimately, it’s identical on either of the GPUs, as it is built on a 128-bit bus, and offers a bandwidth of 192 GB/s. However, you should keep in mind that the GTX 1650 originally launched with GDDR5 memory, which is a tad slower, and practically all of the devices equipped with this GPU right after its launch, are coming with the slower VRAM.
On average, GTX 1650 Ti is slightly faster than its non-Ti sibling by only 7%.
As you can see, this difference is transferred to the real-life, and in some titles, you won’t see any difference between the two.

Well guys, honestly, we were expecting more from the GTX 1650 Ti. While the price difference is not that big, we hoped to see a relationship similar to the GTX 1050 – GTX 1050 Ti here. However, the mere difference of 7% in synthetic benchmarks, and even smaller in some AAA titles is sad. Especially, when the GTX 1650 now comes with GDDR6 memory (practically the same as that of the GTX 1650 Ti). So is it worth it to spend your hard-earned money on a 7% difference? Should you pay a premium for something you are barely going to see? In our view – no. Well, if you are an enthusiast, who just likes looking at numbers, why not – go for it. However, if you want to pay more, just go for the GTX 1660 Ti, and you’ll see a significant payback.
Now, there is the second question. What to do if you are wondering between two different laptops, one equipped with the GTX 1650 and the other boasting the GTX 1650 Ti? Our advice would be to look at the bigger picture. Which one provides more value to you? Where would you get a faster processor, better upgradability, punchier display, or which one do you like more visually? In this case, the graphics card choice should be your least concern.
