[Comparison] Intel Core i7-1280P vs Intel Core i7-1255U – the results speak for themselves

The new Alder Lake P-series is an amazing new addition to Intel’s CPU family, with its top SKU: the Core i7-1280P managing to put a lot of chips in their place, taking the #4 spot in our CPU Ranking. It has battled and won against nearly all of AMD’s opposition.

The 28W TDP also puts it in a unique place, in terms of cooling. Then we have the old school ULV chips, which today will be represented by the Core i7-1255U. With only 15W of power, the high core count will be essential for good performance.

The P-series chip scores 60% higher in 3D Rendering, while also having  1 second lead in Photoshop.

With extra TDP headroom and an increase in the core count, thread count, and cache, the Core i7-1280P is a clear favorite against its 15W relative. The performance that it manages to put out is phenomenal, being able to sustain heavy workloads without a problem. Props should also be given to the laptop that we used for testing, as the Prestige 15 from MSI gives the chip the proper cooling capacity that allows it to shine.
