[Comparison] Intel Core i7-1280P vs AMD Ryzen 7 6800HS – a fair and relatively close clash
These two chips are made to battle each other. The P-series was created in order to fix the mess that the Tiger Lake h35 family created, offering CPUs with a low core count, that didn’t perform at all. Now, the i7-1280P stands before us, being a total beast.
AMD has also had its fair share of more efficient processors. While the U-series often comes to mind, the HS-series is definitely for those thin and light machines that don’t exactly fit the Ultrabook aesthetic, while also carrying decent GPU choices.

CPU benchmarks
The new Ryzen CPU is pretty competitive against the Core i7-1280P but doesn’t have the raw power to defeat it. Instead, the i7 scores 2% higher in Cinebench 20. In Photoshop, the Core i7 is once again quicker, finishing with a lead of 0.68 seconds.
Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Conclusion
The result is that once again, the Core i7 stands undefeated. In order for AMD to compete and be relevant, they would probably have to lower their prices, so that even though they don’t have the performance advantage, they would be able to offer better value for the consumer. Thankfully, it looks like this strategy won’t have to be something long-term, as Zen 4 for desktop is expected in the Fall of 2022, with laptop SKUs probably coming at a later stage as well. Still, the Ryzen 7 isn’t far behind in terms of 3D Rendering performance, so if that’s your cup of tea, nothing’s stopping you from getting one.
