[Comparison] Intel Core i5-12500H vs AMD Ryzen 7 6800H – a Core i7 in disguise

The Core i5-12500H is a Core i5 in name only, as its performance and specs resemble that of a Core i7, even beating the new Core i7-12650H.

Today we have another challenger for the Core i5, this time from Intel’s biggest rival. The Ryzen 7 6800H is one of the largest guns that AMD has right now, providing an incremental performance increase when compared to the older 5000H-series processors.

Today we are comparing the Intel Core i5-12500H against the AMD Ryzen 7 6800H.

CPU benchmarks

The results of the tests are very close, but the Core i5 edges out in front, scoring 3% higher in Cinebench 20, while also being 0.7 seconds quicker in Photoshop.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

Conclusion

The Core i5 is slightly faster in 3D Rendering, with the larger difference seen in Photoshop. Also, we have to mention that Core i5 laptops might actually come cheaper since the Ryzen 7 name has big value among uneducated consumers, which retailers do take advantage of. This paired with the added performance means that you should be able to get a much better value laptop.
