[Comparison] Intel Core i3-1005G1 vs Intel Core i5-10210U – The i5 wins in our CPU benchmarks, but loses in the GPU tests

We have been comparing the most powerful CPUs for a while now and we thought of taking a break from the top dogs of the CPU charts and focusing on the more affordable options since that’s what the majority of consumers can afford.

That’s why for today we have a different comparison between two mid-range CPUs that while are not going to blow you away with their performance or with their benchmark scores, can still deliver a great user experience and laptops equipped with them can be great starting devices for perhaps students, or aspiring entrepreneurs and business people.

Today we are comparing the Intel Core i3-1005G1 vs Intel Core i5-10210U.

You can find more information about both CPUs here: Intel Core i3-1005G1 / Intel Core i5-10210U

CPU benchmarks

When it came to our CPU tests, in Cinebench 15, which tests the processors’ ability in 3D Rendering, the Core i5-10210U performed 97% better, and as for our Adobe Photoshop test, the Core i5-10210U won again, with a four and a half seconds lead.

Results are from the Cinebench 20 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

GPU benchmarks

Where we saw a turnaround was in our GPU tests, where the iGPU inside the Core i3-1005G1 (Intel UHD Graphics G1) managed to perform overall better than the Intel UHD Graphics across all of the tests that we put them through. We recorded performance advantages of up to 33.5%.

Results are from the 3DMark: Fire Strike (Graphics) benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Results are from the Unigine Heaven 3.0 benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Results are from the Unigine Heaven 4.0 benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Results are from the Unigine Superposition benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Conclusion

This was an awesome comparison to do, in terms of finding out what the more popular, lower end parts of the market have to offer. For the CPU part of the comparison, the Core i5-10210U was the clear winner, scoring advantages in both 2D and 3D rendering.

As for the GPU section of the comparison, here we had the Intel UHD Graphics G1 that is inside the Core i3-1005G1 take the win, with performance advantages going up to 34% across our various GPU tests.
