AORUS 15G vs AORUS 15 – what’s new?
The all-new AORUS 15G features a decent amount of upgrades over its predecessor. The latter isn’t bad, it’s just an older device that lacks new extras like Intel Comet Lake-H support and NVIDIA RTX Super GPU video cards. The 2020 laptop comes with up to an 8-core CPU option that can be overclocked, there is an updated design, the weight is reduced and that results in better portability.
Additionally, Gigabyte has implemented a cooling solution that has 5 heat pipes and 4 exhausting vents. Moreover, there is a new mechanical keyboard that will please a lot of gamers. The 2020 laptop has a big battery unit that has an adequate capacity for such a powerful machine.

Design: reduced weight and refreshed look
The design looks a bit different because of the new keyboard that is a bit more “stretched” (we’ll talk about that in a minute). The hinges are placed close to the sides of the machine – the old model has more center-placed ones. In terms of measurements, the AORUS 15G is a 0.6 mm thicker but its weight is 200 grams lower than that of the Aorus 15 and it’ll be easier for you to carry it around. You have probably already noticed the super-thin bezels around the display with just 0.3 mm thickness.

Display: 144Hz and 240Hz Full HD panels
Ok, we have thin bezels but the panels are also very good. The base one is a 144Hz display with a Full HD resolution. That sounds enough for every kind of user – this is a high refresh rate display that is suitable for gaming, movies, Web browsing, etc. If you play a lot of high-paced shooters like CS:GO you can have a look at the 240Hz optional panel. Both displays are factory calibrated and supposedly have an average dE value of >1.0 which means that they are very color-accurate.

Hardware: up to an overclockable 8-core CPU and NVIDIA RTX 2080 Super Max-Q
The Aorus 15G can be picked up with the fastest Comet Lake-H CPU and with the NVIDIA RTX 2080 Super Max-Q video card that has more CUDA cores than the non-Super one. The CPU options are the following – Core i9-10980HK (2.4GHz – 5.3GHz), Core i7-10875H (2.3GHz – 5.1GHz), and Core i7-10750H (2.6GHz – 5.0GHz). If you don’t need the fastest mobile GPU out there you can pick the RTX 2070 Super Max-Q which is a very fast graphics card, as well, and it’ll save you a few hundred bucks.
The Windforce Infinity cooling has two fans, 5 heat pipes, and 4 exhaust vents.
Connectivity and ports: a decent port selection
The I/O is a rich one – 3x USB 3.2 Gen1 (Type-A) ports, one USB Type-C port with Thunderbolt 3 support, an HDMI 2.0 connector, a mini DP 1.4, an audio combo jack, an SD card reader, and an RJ-45 port.
Storage and other specs: two NVMe ports, a mechanical keyboard, Wi-Fi 6, and a bigger battery
Storage-wise, the new Aorus 15G boasts two M.2 ports that can handle fast NVMe drives which will provide you with extra snappiness no matter what you’re doing in front of your laptop. The Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 are standard features for such a high-end device. As we mentioned in the beginning, the 2020 device has a new mechanical keyboard (with 2.5 mm key travel) that has a NumberPad section with bigger keycaps compared to the 2019 model. The latter features a modest battery while the new one has a 94Wh battery unit and that sounds much better, especially if you plan to use your device away from the charger often.
