AMD Ryzen 7 3750H vs Intel Core i5-8300H – benchmarks and performance comparison

AMD is back! Brace yourselves for more and more laptops coming with their new Ryzen laptop CPUs. Following their resurgence in the ULV laptop CPUs branded with a U behind the CPU’s name, now they are bringing H-branded processors. This way they are aiming directly at what Intel has to offer, so without further ado let’s test the new Ryzen 7 3750H with something the Blue company has as a budget gaming-capable processor – the Core i5-8300H.

Specs overview

First, ladies and gentlemen, let’s get to know the new competitor. AMD’s latest Ryzen 7 3750H is built upon a 12nm architecture, uses 35W of TDP and has a quad-core/octa-thread configuration. On the other side, the Core i5-8300H is built on a 14nm manufacturing process and is rated at a slightly higher TDP – 45W. Additionally, it also uses the same quad-core/octa-thread configuration as its opponent. Perhaps to directly attack the Intel processor, AMD has implemented the same Base and Turbo speeds as the Core i5-8300H – 2.30 GHz and 4.00 GHz, respectively. On the downside – the Ryzen 7 3750H is equipped with half the Cache – 4MB vs 8MB.

When the integrated graphics solutions are concerned – the AMD Ryzen 7 3750H is equipped with the AMD Radeon RX Vega 10, whereas the Core i5-8300H embodies the Intel UHD Graphics 630.

Benchmarks

As you can clearly see, for now, the Ryzen 7 3750H is lacking behind its Blue competitor.

Results are from the Cinebench 20 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

Conclusion

Interestingly, AMD Ryzen 7 3750H was unable to beat the Core i5-8300H. However, keep in mind that there are yet more laptops equipped with this processor to be tested, so we expect that result to get higher with newer drivers that are going to be released. Additionally, we should note that the Ryzen 7 3750H needs 10W less to work, so it should also produce less heat than its competitor.
