Dell Latitude 15 3530: Full Specs / In-depth Review

4 reasons to BUY the Dell Latitude 15 3530

1. Battery life

With the U-series processors and a decently-sized 54Wh battery pack, the Dell Latitude lasts for 11 hours and 57 minutes of Web browsing, or 9 hours and 3 minutes of video playback on a single charge. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.

2. Upgradeability

There’s decent upgradeability inside the laptop, with two SODIMM slots for up to 32GB of DDR4 memory and one M.2 PCIe x4 slot for Gen 4 SSDs.

Here is our teardown video, which can help you if you decide to upgrade the Latitude 15 3530.

3. I/O

The port selection of the device is quite good, considering the work that’ll be done on it. There’s one USB 2.0 port, that’s best left for a mouse, two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, one USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port with Power Delivery and DisplayPort connectivity, an HDMI 1.4b port, a MicroSD card slot, an Ethernet port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

4. Security and Input devices

While the fingerprint reader and the IR face recognition sensor come as optional, it’s nice to have them if the job needs them. Depending on the work you’re doing, your company might outfit the workforce with them, in order to up the security and prevent intel from spilling. It does sound like a bit of a spy movie, but you’d be surprised how often corporate espionage occurs without anyone knowing.

Also, we have to mention how comfortable the keyboard is for typing. The key travel isn’t the longest, considering the thinner chassis, but the keys do have tactile feedback and make a satisfying click. The touchpad, while not covered in glass offers good smoothness and accuracy.

1 reason NOT to buy the Dell Latitude 15 3530

1. Design and build quality

Lastly, the laptop is entirely made from plastic, and while Lenovo often gets away with it due to its engineering masterminds, it’s a different story when it comes to the Latitude 15. Both the lid and base show a fair bit of flex, while the surface itself isn’t the best to the touch, feeling rough and as if it can easily collect scratches. The lid is also difficult to open with one hand. On the other hand, the device is light with a weight of 1.79 kg and a profile of 18.1 mm.
