[Comparison] Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 2 vs ThinkPad X13 Gen 1 – what are the differences?

With the unveiling of the Gen 2 ThinkPad X13, which you can read all about here, the question of “Is it worth it when compared to the older device?” pops up. That is what we are doing today, as we have both the ThinkPad X13 Gen 2 and the Gen 1.

Starting from the design, both laptops look incredibly similar. However, the new one brings a new Storm grey color, along with different build materials. The new grey variant comes with an entirely metal exterior, which should feel more premium than the Carbon Fiber hybrid polymer. As for the dimensions, the new laptop is around 100 grams lighter, while being one to two millimeters thicker.

The display selection has been thoroughly revamped, with the panels now having a 16:10 aspect ratio. Also, with the new device, all of the panels come with 99% or 100% sRGB coverage. Now, there is also a QHD+ display with 100% sRGB coverage, for which we hope the color accuracy is at least decent. This will make for a new portable creator laptop.

The specs are new as well, as the new Ryzen 5000U Pro series take center stage. They replace the Ryzen 4000U Pro series, bringing more performance and increased stability to the table. All in all, the performance increase is the pretty usual generational increase. The integrated GPUs on board have also been pumped up, with the top option now being the RX Vega 8 (15W).
